What is the DIRECTV Gemini device?
The DIRECTV Gemini is the newest receiver in the DIRECTV equipment line. It combines your live TV feed and streaming subscriptions into one device, with one remote.
Like Genie receivers, the Gemini offers brilliant 4K visuals,1 advanced Google Assistant voice search, and access to On Demand content.*
What’s the difference between DIRECTV Gemini and Genie?
The Gemini and the Genie are both DIRECTV receivers with 4K resolution and Google Assistant voice search. The slimline Gemini receiver also blends 3rd-party app streaming** and live TV into one device and upgrades the DIRECTV DVR maximum from 450 HD hours to unlimited cloud storage^.
Customers who get DIRECTV Streaming can use a Gemini as their primary receiver. Customers who get DIRECTV by satellite can use a Gemini on secondary TVs, but they must use a Genie as their primary receiver.
Can I combine the Gemini with Genie boxes?
You can combine the Gemini with any Genie box for a whole-home DIRECTV experience. But it’s totally optional — the Gemini was created not as a replacement for the Genie, but as a new option in the DIRECTV receiver family.
DIRECTV satellite customers must use a Genie as their primary receiver, so the Gemini upgrade is available only on secondary TV sets. However, DIRECTV customers who get streaming service can use Gemini as a primary or secondary receiver.
How do I connect my DIRECTV to Gemini?
